Abridge is an AI-powered healthcare platform that transforms patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real-time. Founded in 2018, the company has built enterprise-grade technology with deep EMR integrations and is pioneering responsible AI deployment in healthcare.
You will join Abridge's in-house legal team as Assistant General Counsel for Privacy, reporting to the Head of Privacy. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on building and scaling the company's privacy program across product, engineering, and business functions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building Abridge's privacy program with practical, product-focused counsel to Security, Product, and Engineering teams
- Advising on privacy laws related to AI, machine learning, clinical data, and responsible use of sensitive information
- Developing, maintaining, and scaling global privacy programs and governance frameworks
- Supporting data sharing, ecosystem partnerships, and vendor management with contractual oversight
- Monitoring regulatory changes in privacy and AI regulations
- Drafting and operationalizing privacy policies, playbooks, templates, and training materials
- Cross-functional collaboration on product developments with privacy and data protection implications
Required qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in in-house counsel, health tech, or technology-focused law firm roles
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, biometric privacy laws, and U.S. state privacy frameworks
- Experience building and evaluating compliance programs
- Practical, risk-based approach balancing legal, regulatory, business, and customer considerations
- JD from accredited law school with active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
- Excellent communication skills translating complex legal requirements for technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
Preferred qualifications include healthcare/health tech experience, familiarity with privacy-AI intersection trends, and IAPP CIPP certification.
