Robinhood is seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to join its regulatory and product counsel team in Toronto, reporting to the Senior Director and Deputy General Counsel, Crypto. This is a hybrid role requiring in-person attendance at least 3 days per week.
You will provide end-to-end legal counseling on retail cryptocurrency products and services, working closely with product, compliance, and cross-functional teams. Key responsibilities include responding to sophisticated legal requests, identifying and assessing legal and regulatory risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and advising on cryptocurrency regulatory developments in Canada. You will engage directly with Canadian securities regulators and self-regulatory organizations on compliance and innovation matters.
The role requires a proactive, business-oriented mindset—you'll think like a product owner, not just a legal advisor. You'll develop trusted relationships to facilitate coordinated product launches, coordinate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to deliver practical and timely advice, and pitch in on whatever legal work needs doing.
Required qualifications: J.D. from a law school accredited by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada; membership in good standing with at least one Canadian provincial or territorial bar; 7+ years of relevant work experience at a law firm, government agency, or in technology, financial services, brokerage, or fintech; and experience with legal and regulatory requirements applicable to crypto, securities, derivatives, money transmission, and/or sanctions. You must have extraordinary interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to both legal and non-legal audiences and drive cross-functional alignment.
