Attain is building a data-sharing ecosystem that empowers consumers to leverage their data in exchange for modern financial services and rewards, while enabling businesses to access insights for better outcomes. The company operates two core businesses: an enterprise adtech platform and a consumer fintech platform.
As Assistant General Counsel, you will be the second in-house lawyer reporting directly to the General Counsel. This is a generalist role with primary focus on adtech, data privacy, and commercial contracting. You will own legal matters across both business lines with significant autonomy and real ownership from day one.
Key responsibilities include: negotiating and closing commercial agreements (data licenses, MSAs, DPAs, SOWs) with agencies, platforms, publishers, and retail media networks; embedding with product, engineering, and growth teams to advise on new features and data flows early in the development cycle; building out the data privacy program including data inventory, consent/opt-out mechanics review, vendor diligence, and consumer data request processes; supporting expansion of the consumer fintech business alongside specialist regulatory counsel; building legal operations infrastructure with AI automation for intake, contract review, negotiation playbooks, templates, and matter management; managing outside counsel relationships; and covering broader company legal needs including employment, IP, corporate, financing, insurance, and licensing.
You will help build a modern legal function from the ground up, creating playbooks, company-wide processes, and identifying automation opportunities so a two-lawyer team can cover work that traditionally required four lawyers. This role offers genuine exposure to general counsel responsibilities and a clear path to that position for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate has 7+ years of post-JD experience combining law firm training with in-house work. Deep data privacy expertise—particularly in adtech, data licensing, or data-driven consumer businesses—is essential. You should be comfortable operating independently with sound judgment about escalation, able to distinguish real risk from theoretical risk, and already using AI tools in your practice. You want to embed in the business, move quickly on commercial matters without leaving risk on the table, and build systems rather than just work queues.
