Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market platform, enabling individuals to trade on real-world outcomes across politics, economics, sports, and culture. With $21B traded in 2025, the company is scaling rapidly as a trusted source for market-based probabilities on future events. The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Controller and is a critical member of a small, high-output finance team building infrastructure for a category-defining company. This role owns the complete monthly, quarterly, and annual close process under US GAAP across multiple entities, including consolidated financials and statutory filings for subsidiaries. Key responsibilities include maintaining and expanding the SOX control environment as Polymarket launches new product lines, independently applying technical accounting standards (ASC 606 for revenue recognition, ASC 805 for business combinations, ASC 350-60 for intangibles and crypto assets), and partnering with legal, compliance, and product teams on CFTC filings and new product launches. You'll scope and implement accounting system improvements, identify control gaps before they become audit findings, and manage junior accounting staff. The ideal candidate holds an active CPA license and brings 8–15 years of progressive accounting experience in banking, fintech, or regulated financial services. You must have hands-on experience in high-transaction-volume environments with crypto on-ramps, stablecoin settlements, and fiat integrations. Direct SOX compliance and CFTC regulatory filing experience is required. Big 4 management experience is strongly preferred. Strong Excel skills, clear communication ability, and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance are essential. SQL skills and prior experience at high-growth startups building infrastructure from scratch are valuable additions.
