Flexport is seeking an Area Manager to lead operations at one of its inaugural fulfillment centers in Chicago. This is a full-time, on-site role managing a team of 30–100 associates on the warehouse floor. Key Responsibilities: - Coach, manage, and develop a team of 30–100 warehouse associates, fostering a collaborative leadership culture. - Communicate policies, maintain compliance, and take corrective action as needed. - Create and manage recognition programs to drive engagement and performance. - Support all safety programs and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment. - Own performance reporting for your area, including on-time receiving/shipping, inventory accuracy, and packing quality. - Hold the team to strict SLA expectations and provide clear performance reports and action plans. - Facilitate cross-functional troubleshooting for fulfillment-related problems. - Serve as an escalation point to mitigate risks and resolve issues. - Measure and respond to gaps in inventory accuracy, identifying root causes and driving improvements. - Review defect rates to identify trends and expose operational improvement opportunities. - Track learnings and best practices to contribute to Standard Operating Procedures. - Collaborate with Growth and Engineering teams to prioritize resolution of systemic problems. - Ensure building security and product loss prevention procedures are followed. Required Qualifications: - 2+ years managing a staff of 5 or more. - Ability to lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach. - Ability to stand/walk for 10–12 hours per shift. - Comfort working in variable noise levels and temperatures (60–90°F, occasionally exceeding 90°F). - Willingness to work any permanent shift, including overnights and holidays, with potential weekend overlap. - Ability to work on secure mezzanines at heights up to 40 feet (where applicable). - Demonstrated collaboration with internal and external partners. - Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and prioritization skills. - Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills. - Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous, deadline-driven environments. - Adaptability in a rapid-growth, startup setting.
