Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonised energy system, controlling hundreds of thousands of energy assets including vehicle charging, heating systems, and home batteries. The company moves gigawatt-hours of electrons in real-world markets while operating at startup speed, backed by leading investors including Energize Capital and Accel.
As Analytics Engineer, you will sit at the heart of Axle's 'control room', owning critical daily and monthly operational processes. Your responsibilities include running and optimising asset management, trading across UK flexibility markets, and ensuring clients and end customers are paid for flexibility delivered. You'll develop a deep understanding of UK flexibility markets and collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and commercial teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Own operations for UK energy trading, including daily trading processes and settlement reviews
- Debug complex edge cases across trading, asset registration, and settlement processes
- Identify revenue and delivery risks and proactively mitigate them
- Build and maintain data pipelines that power analytics and operational insights
- Communicate findings and recommended actions clearly to engineering and commercial stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and UK market regulators
You'll need strong SQL and Python skills for data analysis, investigation, and process automation. Deep analytical capability is essential—you'll work daily with MW, kWh, and £ metrics. The role requires comfort in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment and a genuine motivation to combat climate change.
Axle operates with a deliberately flat structure and equitable pay philosophy. The company offers a meaningful equity stake alongside competitive salary (£75k–£200k base + equity), enhanced parental leave, bi-annual retreats, and a dog-friendly office near Farringdon. Hybrid working with 2-3 days per week in-office to maximise collaboration.
