Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonized energy system, controlling hundreds of thousands of energy assets including vehicle charging, heating systems, and home batteries. The company moves gigawatt-hours of electrons while operating at startup speed, backed by leading investors including Energize Capital and Accel.
As Analytics Engineer, you'll own critical operational processes at the heart of Axle's business. You'll develop deep expertise in UK flexibility markets and collaborate cross-functionally to optimize the company's core operations. Your role sits in the 'Axle control room'—the nerve center where daily trading, asset management, and settlement processes happen.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning UK energy trading operations: daily trading processes, settlement reviews, and revenue optimization
- Debugging complex edge cases across trading, asset registration, and settlement systems
- Identifying revenue and delivery risks, then proactively mitigating them
- Communicating insights and actions to engineering and commercial teams
- Building and maintaining relationships with Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and UK market regulators
You'll need strong SQL and Python skills for data analysis, issue investigation, and process automation. Daily work involves speaking in MW, kWh, and £. The role requires comfort in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and a deep motivation to combat climate change.
Axle operates with a deliberately flat structure and equitable pay (1:1 median ratio between founder and team). The London office near Farringdon is dog-friendly; hybrid arrangement expects 2-3 days per week in-office to maximize collaboration. Equity is a meaningful part of compensation alongside competitive base salary.
