Axios is a growth-focused media company seeking an Analytics Engineer to serve as the primary interface for delivering data-driven insights to the business. In this role, you'll design and maintain the curated layers (Silver and Gold) of the data platform using medallion architecture, own executive dashboards and visualizations, and translate complex data into actionable insights that drive faster, clearer decision-making aligned with Axios' mission. Key responsibilities include owning semantic models and business metrics, building and maintaining executive dashboards, defining best practices for data visualization and storytelling, creating data marts that serve multiple domains, reviewing dashboards for accuracy and consistency, collaborating with data engineers on Silver layer requirements, implementing data quality tests and documentation, and serving as a bridge to data science teams. You'll also participate in a hub-and-spoke model, rotating through intake, quality assurance, and strategic stakeholder partnership roles. Required qualifications: 2-5+ years in analytics engineering, BI development, or data visualization; strong SQL proficiency and experience with dbt or similar transformation frameworks; expertise in BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Mode, etc.); familiarity with modern data stacks (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift); experience designing curated datasets and semantic layers; understanding of medallion architecture and data governance; solid grasp of versioning, testing, and CI/CD for data pipelines; and strong data storytelling and presentation skills. Success means business users rely on you for accurate models and clear dashboards, stakeholders see compelling visualizations driving decisions, data engineers have clear upstream requirements, data scientists can discover and reuse well-documented features, leadership sees fewer unreliable dashboards and more data-informed decisions, and you establish analytics engineering as central to Axios' data-to-decisions lifecycle.
