Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. As an Analyst in International Trade Compliance (ITC), you will join Planet's global Legal organization, working on high-impact compliance and financial matters.
You will be the strategic partner for export/import compliance, with primary focus on ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations), while supporting economic sanctions and anti-bribery/anti-corruption compliance. You will interface regularly with engineers, supply chain, IT, security, and external counsel to mitigate risks and support secure global trade operations.
Key responsibilities include: developing and implementing Technology Control Plans (TCPs) tailored to Planet's manufacturing labs and IT environments to restrict foreign nationals and unauthorized personnel from accessing sensitive hardware, software, and technology; reviewing and approving lab visits and access requests with appropriate export authorizations; managing physical security and access controls for satellite manufacturing facilities; conducting regular physical audits to verify controlled items are properly labeled, stored, and secured; partnering with laboratory managers and engineering teams to prevent inadvertent "deemed exports" during collaborative processes; collaborating with IT and Security teams to design and audit logical access controls for export-controlled technology and source code; administering user access rights in physical spaces and IT repositories; participating in Identity and Access Management (IAM) system configuration to automate access boundaries based on nationality, program assignment, and security clearance; and monitoring for potential digital compliance anomalies such as unauthorized access attempts or improper data sharing.
You will need 2+ years of experience in international trade compliance, legal, or contracting, preferably in the satellite and/or aerospace/defense industry. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required. You should have hands-on experience reading and applying ITAR and EAR regulations, strong negotiation and problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication, and meticulous attention to detail. This is a full-time hybrid role requiring 3 days per week at the San Francisco headquarters.
