OpenFX is building infrastructure to enable cross-border payments at scale, moving money as freely as data across time zones and legacy systems. As Americas Legal Counsel, you will serve as a strategic legal advisor across the business with particular focus on financial products and partnerships. This role sits at the intersection of cross-border payments, cryptocurrency, foreign exchange, and fintech—combining intellectual challenge with the opportunity to shape legal strategy at a high-growth company. Key responsibilities include: Product Legal: Advise product and engineering teams on legal and regulatory aspects of payment and banking product design, development, and launch. Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear guidance that enables rapid, compliant product development. Regulatory & Licensing Strategy: Partner with business and compliance teams to develop and execute licensing and market entry strategies across multiple jurisdictions. Provide forward-thinking guidance on payments, money transmission, cryptocurrency, foreign exchange, and cross-border transaction regulations. Identify regulatory risks and develop pragmatic solutions while achieving business objectives. Corporate & General Legal: Provide comprehensive legal support across corporate governance, board matters, employment, HR, privacy, IP, fundraising, strategic transactions, and general corporate needs. Assess legal and business risks and develop mitigation strategies. Cross-Functional Partnership: Serve as strategic business partner to leadership, product, engineering, and growth teams. Manage external counsel efficiently. Build scalable legal processes and frameworks supporting rapid growth. Required: 7+ years legal experience with significant fintech or financial services background (15+ for senior counsel level). Strong knowledge of financial services and payments regulations. Proven ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice balancing risk with commercial objectives. Experience collaborating with product, engineering, compliance, and business teams. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills. Self-starter thriving in fast-paced, ambiguous environments. Strong project management and execution ability. JD from accredited law school and bar membership in good standing. Desirable: Fluency in English and Spanish. Knowledge of cryptocurrency and/or Banking as a Service products. Startup or high-growth company experience. Significant experience with international regulatory regimes and cross-border transactions. Collaborative, humble team player mindset.
