Salary: CHF 102,200 - 189,800 / annual

DTX Pharma, a Novartis Company, is seeking an AI Scientist to join the Oncology Data Science team in Biomedical Research. This role sits at the intersection of oncology drug discovery, computational biology, AI/ML, and data engineering, with a focus on digital pathology and translational research. Key responsibilities include developing and applying deep learning approaches to extract insights from digital pathology imaging datasets (H&E, IHC, mIF, spatial transcriptomics). You will work with foundational models—including pre-trained, self-supervised, multi-purpose, and multi-modal models—to advance generative AI applications in drug discovery. The role involves supporting imaging biomarker development by analyzing pathology imaging data and collaborating with pathologists and translational teams to interpret image-derived biomarkers and biological findings. You will contribute to evaluation, validation, and benchmarking of image analysis algorithms and workflows, perform tissue segmentation, cell phenotyping, feature extraction, and spatial analysis using state-of-the-art computational approaches. Staying current with advances in computational pathology, AI/ML, and spatial biology technologies is expected, as is contributing to scientific publications and presenting results at internal and external scientific conferences. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Biology, or a related field. Candidates with an MSc in these fields plus 4+ years of relevant industry experience will also be considered. You must have strong experience analyzing pathology imaging modalities (H&E, IHC, multiplex IF, spatial transcriptomics), understanding of machine learning methods for segmentation, classification, detection, and representation learning, and experience in generative AI, digital pathology foundation models, geometric deep learning, or multi-modal learning. Excellent programming skills and proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch are essential, along with strong communication and collaboration abilities. A track record of research publications in leading scientific journals or conference presentations is required.
