Slingshot AI is hiring an AI Safety Manager to lead trust and safety strategy and operations for Ash, an AI platform designed for mental health support. The role combines strategic policy development, hands-on operational execution, and clear communication across internal and external audiences.
You will develop principles and policies that navigate competing tensions between safety, privacy, user autonomy, and product usefulness. You'll investigate user reports and emerging risks, establish what is known and uncertain, and recommend courses of action. You'll build and refine operational processes for triage, investigation, escalation, and follow-through, defining roles, creating tools and documentation, and handling operational details directly.
The role requires translating safety findings into product improvements by working with engineering, machine learning, clinical, and legal teams. You'll build, test, and iterate quickly on new safety systems, matching the level of review to decision consequences. You'll produce policies, practical guidance, and public explanations of Ash's safety approach, helping communicate evaluations and findings transparently, including their limitations. You'll represent the company's thinking to partners, clinicians, and external audiences, engaging seriously with criticism and incorporating feedback into ongoing work.
Slingshot is a well-funded Series A company ($93M raised from Andreessen Horowitz, Radical Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, and top-tier tech investors) with offices in New York City and London. The team spans machine learning, product, engineering, conversational design, clinical, growth, and operations.
