P-1 AI is building Archie, an AI engineer agent for the physical world designed to function as a junior mechanical and electrical engineer within existing engineering teams. The company recently closed a $50M Series A led by NEA, with board additions including former GE CEO Jeff Immelt and AI researchers from Anthropic and Nominal.
As an AI Research Scientist focused on Spatial Reasoning, you will research and develop novel approaches for spatial reasoning, geometric understanding, physical reasoning, and structured world modeling in large-scale AI systems. You'll own the complete development pipeline from data generation through evaluation to product integration, working hands-on across both research strategy and technical implementation.
Key responsibilities include investigating 3D reasoning, geometric representations, multimodal reasoning, world models, simulation, and physical intuition. You'll have ownership over your own applied research stream, staying at the frontier of what's possible by following literature, attending conferences, and bringing promising ideas into production.
You should have conducted research in spatial reasoning, geometric deep learning, 3D vision, multimodal reasoning, world models, robotics, simulation, or related fields. Fluency in Python and modern ML stacks (PyTorch or JAX) is required, along with experience in distributed training frameworks. You thrive in fast-moving collaborative environments, communicate technical concepts clearly, and take a high-ownership approach to problem-solving.
Bonus qualifications include a PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Math, or related field; publications in top-tier venues; and experience with CAD data, point clouds, meshes, simulation environments, or other geometric representations.
