Anduril Industries is seeking an Actuation Engineer to design, develop, and integrate actuation systems for autonomous air vehicles. You will own the full lifecycle of actuation subsystems—from control surface actuators to electromechanical and hydraulic systems—ensuring they perform reliably under demanding flight test and fielded operations. Key responsibilities include defining actuation requirements (torque, speed, precision, environmental) in collaboration with structures, controls, and systems engineering teams. You will select, size, and validate actuators, motors, gearboxes, and linkages to meet performance, weight, and reliability targets. Working cross-functionally with electrical and software engineers, you'll ensure actuator control, feedback, and health monitoring integrate seamlessly into the vehicle's flight control system. You will lead design reviews, conduct structural and dynamic analysis, and develop comprehensive test plans to verify performance under flight-representative loads. Your work spans component-level bench testing, subsystem integration, and vehicle-level ground and flight test campaigns. You'll support critical hardware demonstrations with customers and travel to test sites and vendors as needed (25% travel with potential surges). The role demands comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward action—moving fast, testing early, and iterating as vehicle design matures. You'll contribute to enhancing team tools, templates, processes, and standards while balancing operational needs across subsystems to optimize for development speed, mass, manufacturability, and cost. Required: 3+ years professional technical engineering experience in actuation, electromechanical, or servo-controlled systems. Strong CAD skills (NX preferred), proficiency in MATLAB/SIMULINK/SIMSCAPE, hands-on prototyping and fabrication skills (machining, welding, soldering), and manufacturing knowledge. BS/MS in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or equivalent). Must be eligible for U.S. Secret security clearance.
