Lumilens is building photonics infrastructure for AI supercomputing, including chip-to-chip optical interconnects and scalable photonic engines. The company is Series B funded and led by veterans from transformative technology companies.
You will lead manufacturing process development for high-performance photonic products, taking them from prototype through NPI qualification to volume production. Your core responsibilities include developing and optimizing optical assembly processes—active alignment, passive alignment, epoxy dispensing, curing, and optical coupling—and defining critical process parameters and acceptance criteria.
Key activities include planning and executing design-of-experiments (DOE), process characterization, tolerance studies, and optimization to establish robust manufacturing processes. You'll evaluate process capability using yield, Cp/Cpk, GR&R, and statistical methods. You'll support prototype, EVT/DVT/PVT, pilot, and production ramp builds, perform root-cause analysis on failures and yield excursions, and drive manufacturing improvements in yield, cycle time, and cost.
You'll develop comprehensive process documentation—specifications, work instructions, SOPs, PFMEA, control plans, and qualification reports—and support DFM/DFA reviews with product and mechanical design teams. You'll also lead process transfer from R&D to internal factories, suppliers, or contract manufacturers, and establish process controls and monitoring to ensure stable performance post-release.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics, Photonics, or related field. Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with optical active alignment for transceivers or photonic devices in NPI/process development environments. Strong expertise in optical components (FAU, lenses, isolators, PICs, PD, lasers), active alignment equipment development and qualification, motion stages, controllers, optical power meters, laser sources, cameras, and precision mechanical systems. Experience developing or optimizing alignment algorithms and automated sequences. Knowledge of epoxy dispensing, adhesive bonding, UV/thermal curing, and material characteristics. Proficiency with DOE, statistical process control, Cp/Cpk, GR&R, and yield analysis. Familiarity with PFMEA, control plans, SOPs, and manufacturing qualification documentation. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with ability to work across R&D, manufacturing, equipment suppliers, quality, and contract manufacturers.
