Sustainment is an AI-native software platform connecting US manufacturers with critical suppliers to build resilient, hyperconnected supply chains. The platform serves both DoD and commercial customers.
You will run day-to-day accounting operations, owning the complete monthly close cycle, general ledger integrity, and transactional accounting. Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll manage a finance stack built on QuickBooks Online, Ramp, and Anrok with documented processes and a clean close already in place. Your focus is executing it well, maintaining accuracy, and improving efficiency as the company scales.
Key responsibilities include:
- Running the monthly close end-to-end, delivering financials within 10 business days with a path to tightening timelines
- Owning general ledger integrity: journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals
- Managing the full transactional cycle: accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense management, and payroll accounting
- Applying revenue recognition policy across commercial and government contracts, including billing and revenue schedules
- Producing monthly reporting packages and supporting schedules for board and investor reporting
- Conducting monthly budget vs. actuals analysis and partnering with budget owners on variance explanations and forecasting
- Administering and optimizing the finance stack (QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Anrok)
- Owning sales tax compliance across jurisdictions, including nexus monitoring, registrations, and filings
- Maintaining and improving documented accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Preparing audit-ready schedules and serving as primary preparer for annual audits under CFO direction
- Coordinating with external tax and compliance partners
- Identifying and fixing slow, manual, or error-prone processes
This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in fast, clean closes and proactively manages deadlines without needing oversight. You must be local to Austin, TX and willing to be in office a minimum of 3 days per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, including 1–2 years owning a monthly close
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls, with judgment to escalate complex transactions
- Public accounting or audit experience (Big 4 or national firm preferred)
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- Startup or high-growth company experience, ideally Series A/B
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online and modern spend and tax automation tools
- Fluency with AI tools, particularly Claude, for budget commentary, ad hoc analysis, and finance workflows; ability to prompt effectively and validate output
- Multi-state sales tax compliance experience, particularly for SaaS
- Government or federal contract accounting exposure is a strong plus
- Precision, deadline discipline, and follow-through
- Direct communicator who works well in small teams and operates with minimal oversight
