Cogent Security is an Applied AI Lab building next-generation AI agents for cybersecurity. The company is backed by Greylock and Bain Capital Ventures and partners with Fortune 500 companies to secure complex production environments. You will be the first full-time accounting hire, building the accounting function from the ground up. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Operations, you'll own all core accounting responsibilities including the monthly close, general ledger management, accounts payable, invoicing and collections, and tax/compliance filings. Key responsibilities: - Own the monthly close end-to-end: establish close calendar, create journal entries, manage reconciliations, and deliver monthly financials to leadership - Build and maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and department structure; manage accrual, prepaid, and fixed asset schedules - Manage accounts payable end-to-end using Ramp: intake, coding, approval routing, and payment runs - Handle vendor onboarding, tax documentation, and international wire payments; enforce procurement and expense policies - Invoice customers and manage collections - Write and maintain accounting policies and internal controls; prepare the company for its first financial statement audit - Leverage AI tooling to improve reconciliation, analysis, and documentation workflows You'll start hands-on with third-party contractor support and have the opportunity to grow into managing a small accounting team. Near-term priorities include establishing the close calendar, building a chart of accounts for management reporting, automating reconciliations, and selecting an ERP system. Required qualifications: 4+ years of accounting experience with exposure to public accounting or in-house accounting at a scaling company. You must be able to own a monthly close end-to-end, have experience designing or rebuilding accounting processes from scratch, and be comfortable with general ledger systems and modern expense/AP platforms like Ramp. You should thrive in an early-stage environment with broad scope and shifting priorities, and be willing to use AI tools in daily workflows. Bonus: CPA or CPA-track, SaaS experience, experience preparing for or supporting a first financial statement audit, or familiarity with ERP selection/implementation at early-stage companies.
