OpenAI is seeking an experienced Account Director to join the Startup Go-To-Market team in Tokyo. You will own relationships with strategically important startup customers, helping them successfully build and deploy OpenAI's AI products and APIs. This role combines technical understanding, partnership, and strategic account management.
Key responsibilities include managing a portfolio of startup accounts and developing comprehensive account strategies; partnering with AI Deployment Engineers to drive technical engagements; owning consumption and contracted revenue targets while forecasting revenue; analyzing key account metrics and providing insights to stakeholders; collaborating cross-functionally with product, research, engineering, support, and technical solutions teams; serving as an advocate for improving the startup experience with OpenAI; monitoring industry and startup landscapes to inform corporate strategy; and supporting team recruitment, onboarding, and culture development.
You bring 7–12 years of experience selling platform-as-a-service (PaaS), cloud, or API products, with a background in or around the startup ecosystem (ideally as a founder, startup employee, or someone who has worked closely with startup customers). You have experience supporting the growth of fast-growing, high-performing companies, working directly with C-level executives and startup founders, and communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences. You excel at gathering and distilling complex market intelligence across industries, competitors, customers, and prospects.
You are customer-centric, deeply understanding customer priorities and serving as a trusted advisor. You have genuine passion for or curiosity about artificial intelligence and are excited to help deploy technology that benefits humanity. You are a builder who influences how the company operates and scales, with a passion for creating strong systems and processes. You thrive on new challenges and multidimensional problem-solving, and you are a strategist who understands go-to-market best practices and thinks years ahead.
