Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain through at-home EEG and cardiopulmonary signal platforms for clinical development and diagnostics. The company seeks an Academic Partnerships Director to drive adoption of its Waveband EEG platform within academic and research institutions.
This senior individual contributor role reports to the President of Life Sciences and Chief Business Officer. The director will build and manage a portfolio of relationships with principal investigators (PIs), academic medical centers, core facilities, and research consortia pursuing NIH, NSF, foundation, and other grant-funded studies in neurology, psychiatry, and sleep disorders.
Key responsibilities include: partnering with PIs during proposal development to position Beacon's platform as the preferred solution; applying working knowledge of U.S. academic grant funding cycles (R01, R21, U01, SBIR/STTR) and international regulatory frameworks; growing relationships with academic core facilities and research consortia for institution-wide adoption; owning account-level pipeline generation, negotiation, and closing; representing Beacon at scientific conferences (SLEEP, SfN, ACNP, ASSC); serving as a scientific thought partner to research teams; collaborating with internal teams on scoping and delivery; and providing leadership visibility into pipeline health and emerging opportunities.
The role requires an MD with psychiatry or neurology training, or PhD in neuroscience, plus 3+ years in business development, academic partnerships, or alliance management supporting grant-funded research. Candidates should have firsthand familiarity with the academic research and grant funding environment, strong scientific acumen in neuroscience or sleep science, ability to translate strategic context into operational briefs, exceptional interpersonal skills, a track record of self-generated pipeline, and comfort with long academic funding timelines. The position is remote with periodic travel to customer meetings, conferences, and site visits, with preferred in-person hubs in Boston and New York City.
