Cylake is seeking an exceptional Windows systems engineer to join a small, veteran-led team building next-generation cybersecurity products. This role focuses on designing and building low-level endpoint infrastructure that powers real-time telemetry, behavioral detection, and system instrumentation across modern Windows environments.
You will work across kernel-mode and user-mode development, creating production-grade systems that operate reliably in highly concurrent, security-sensitive environments. Key responsibilities include designing and developing Windows kernel drivers using WDM/WDF, building kernel instrumentation and telemetry pipelines for endpoint visibility, and developing high-performance process, thread, and image lifecycle tracking.
You'll implement scalable kernel callback infrastructure using process notifications, thread notifications, image load notifications, object callbacks, and registry callbacks. The role requires designing lock-efficient kernel data structures, building reliable user/kernel communication mechanisms, and debugging complex concurrency and synchronization issues.
Beyond kernel engineering, you'll work directly with Windows NT internals beyond documented APIs, analyzing scheduler behavior, process creation, and teardown. You'll investigate compatibility across multiple Windows releases and debug boot-time, runtime, and kernel crash scenarios. The position also involves designing telemetry systems for endpoint detection and response, building behavioral detection capabilities, researching modern attack techniques, and evaluating how modern Windows security features impact endpoint architecture.
Required qualifications include extensive experience building low-level Windows systems software, deep expertise in Windows kernel architecture and NT internals, extensive kernel driver development experience, strong C/C++ programming skills, experience debugging complex multithreaded systems, and proficiency with WinDbg and kernel debugging tools. Nice-to-have skills include Rust, filesystem minifilters, Windows Filtering Platform, ETW provider development, hypervisor technologies, and memory forensics experience.
