Waabi, a leader in Physical AI for autonomous transportation, is seeking a V&V Engineer, Firmware to join its Pittsburgh office. This role sits at the intersection of firmware validation, automotive compliance, and autonomous vehicle development.
You will own verification and validation execution across Waabi's autonomous truck and robotaxi platforms. Key responsibilities include characterizing vehicle behavior and deriving requirements with full traceability to test evidence; planning and executing functional and performance testing on prototypes and production hardware; and conducting specialized testing (EMI/EMC, vibration, shock, thermal, environmental) in collaboration with mechanical and electrical teams.
You'll build and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) benches, custom fixturing, and automated regression test suites. You'll identify and troubleshoot firmware issues, lead root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions to closure. Cross-functionally, you'll partner with design, systems, quality, and software engineers to integrate electrical V&V and Design for Test principles into the broader program, documenting and presenting findings to leadership.
Regulatory compliance is a core pillar: you'll manage compliance testing and certification under ISO 26262 and UL 4600, planning and executing tests per ISO 16750, 11451/11452, UL, CE, IEC, and OEM standards. You'll coordinate with external accredited labs for pre-compliance and formal certification, oversee failure analysis, and maintain detailed test reports and compliance documentation.
You'll also evolve Waabi's V&V methodology, automation toolchain, and bench infrastructure, and assess new OEM DV/PV processes to advise leadership on effort, complexity, and cost.
Required: 5+ years in electrical or firmware/software V&V, preferably automotive; BS in Engineering; deep understanding of automotive DV/PV, PPAP, and APQP processes; direct OEM and Tier 1/2 supplier experience; knowledge of automotive environmental and safety standards (ASTM B117, SAE J1455, ISO 16750/11451/11452); AEC standards familiarity; CANbus, Python, Shell, Unix OS, and SPICE experience.
Bonus: Agile/Scrum experience, self-driving vehicle development background, NRTL/UL/CE certification experience, hands-on vehicle instrumentation for mechanical/electrical modeling or shock/vibration/EMC testing, SolidWorks/ANSYS/Polarion, accelerated life testing (HALT/HASS), Weibull analysis, FMEA/FTA/RCA.
