Waabi, founded by AI researcher Raquel Urtasun, is developing Physical AI technology for autonomous transportation, including commercial autonomous trucks and robotaxis. The company is backed by leaders in AI, automotive, logistics, and deep tech, with offices in Toronto, San Francisco, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. As a V&V (Verification & Validation) Engineer for Electrical systems, you will own the complete electrical validation and quality assurance program for autonomous vehicle platforms. Your responsibilities span three core areas: V&V Execution: Characterize vehicle electrical systems and derive requirements at module and component levels with full traceability to test evidence. Plan and execute comprehensive functional and performance testing including EMC/EMI analysis, electrical stress testing, and robustness validation on prototype and production-intent hardware. You'll build and maintain custom test fixtures as needed, identify and troubleshoot electrical issues, lead root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions to closure. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with design, systems, quality, and software teams to integrate electrical V&V and Design for Test principles into the broader development program. Document and present test results and recommendations to drive continuous improvement. Regulatory & Certification: Manage compliance testing and certification activities under ISO 26262 and UL 4600 standards. Plan and execute critical compliance tests per ISO 16750, 11451/11452, UL, CE, IEC, and OEM-specific standards. Coordinate with external accredited laboratories for pre-compliance and formal certification. Analyze test failures, perform root cause analysis on non-compliance issues, and maintain comprehensive documentation. Process Development: Build and evolve Waabi's electrical V&V methodology, lab capabilities, and toolchain. Quickly assess new OEM DV/PV processes and advise leadership on effort, complexity, and cost implications. Required: 5+ years in electrical V&V roles (automotive or heavy vehicle preferred), Bachelor's in Engineering, deep understanding of automotive DV/PV and PPAP processes, direct OEM and Tier 1/2 supplier experience, knowledge of automotive environmental and EMC standards (SAE J1455, ISO 11451/11452, MIL-STD-810), AEC standards familiarity, and ability to adapt V&V processes for different OEMs. Vehicle characterization experience for environmental and EMC requirements is essential. Bonus skills: Agile/Scrum experience, self-driving vehicle development background, NRTL/UL/CE certification experience, SolidWorks/ANSYS/Polarion proficiency, HIL test bench design and automation, accelerated life testing (HALT/HASS), reliability analysis (Weibull), FMEA/FTA/RCA, CANbus, Python, Shell, Unix, and SPICE.
