Volta is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform building the compute utility layer for frontier AI. You will lead the platform engineering organization and own all software that turns GPU clusters into a usable multi-tenant IaaS platform. You own the platform strategy, architecture, and delivery: the multi-tenant IaaS, bare metal management stacks, network fabric integration, customer-facing console and APIs, and operational tooling. You set technical direction under high-level CTO guidance and make build-versus-buy decisions that define the platform for years. You build and scale the organization from a strong early engineering base toward 50+ engineers across US and EU. You structure capability teams around compute, storage, control plane, confidential computing, networking, and customer-facing surfaces. You hire and develop the leadership layer beneath you—team leads and a Director for EMEA as your deputy—and own the hiring bar and candidate quality. You stay technically engaged: leading architecture reviews, owning the boundary between platform software and underlying hardware/fabric/sites, and driving hard technical debates. You own reliability as a structural function, not a team virtue, including on-call practice and incident response. You reshape early-stage technology stacks as needed rather than inheriting constraints. You partner closely with the Chief Product Officer on platform direction without a reporting line, keep clean boundaries with project delivery and infrastructure engineering, and work with security engineering to embed compliance into the platform. You represent the platform at the executive level and in front of frontier AI customers. The role is building-focused, not caretaking. Volta is early enough that your decisions define the platform for years, but late enough that customers are real and deadlines are contractual. You report to the CTO and sit alongside Volta's other functional leaders.
