As VP of Engineering, you will lead Unlearn's entire engineering function, including core engineering, applications, ML/AI Ops, and infrastructure teams. The organization spans multiple experience levels anchored by strong senior technical leaders. You will own the quality, reliability, compliance, and security of systems powering the company's AI-heavy, tech-enabled services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the engineering function across technical disciplines, ensuring AI tools and systems drive efficiency and impact
- Driving execution by defining projects, scoping work with teams, and running delivery practices that convert commitments into shipped products
- Translating company strategy into engineering roadmaps that sequence work across data, modeling, applications, compliance, and security
- Operating as a member of the leadership team, reporting on engineering progress, capacity, and risk while maintaining aligned expectations
- Establishing an AI-centric engineering culture that scales organizational impact and equips team members with modern toolsets
- Owning hiring and team design, deliberately growing the organization aligned with company needs
You will partner closely with Product, Delivery, and R&D teams to understand requirements, integrate engineering with customer delivery teams, and build platforms and tools that enable their success. This is an execution-focused role in a regulated, compliance-heavy environment where engineering plays a critical role in delivering AI technology through models, applications, and agentic systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years in software engineering with significant experience leading engineering organizations at Senior Director or VP level, including managing managers and senior technical leaders across multiple disciplines
- Track record of strong execution in highly collaborative, cross-functional environments where engineering delivered on business-critical timelines
- Experience leading across the full stack: infrastructure/DevOps, backend/platform engineering, and application/front-end development
- Experience in regulated environments where compliance is a key factor in system design
- Demonstrated ability to translate company strategy into engineering roadmaps, communicate priorities, and hold teams accountable for delivery
- Experience partnering with Product, R&D, and customer-facing delivery teams; proven track record building internal tools and platforms that measurably improved technical team effectiveness
- Experience in growth-stage or early-stage companies building engineering processes and delivery discipline while shipping
- Plus: experience in life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated, data-intensive domains
