Houzz, the leading platform for home remodeling and design, is seeking a VP of Accounting to lead a team of approximately 15 people and oversee all accounting and controllership functions for a mature, globally-operating company.
You will own the complete accounting function across multiple entities, including:
**Core Accounting & Close**: Manage the general ledger and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual closes under US GAAP. Oversee consolidations, intercompany accounting, multi-currency reporting, and account reconciliations.
**Compliance & Reporting**: Own statutory reporting and local audits for the Israeli entity and international subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with Israeli corporate, tax, and reporting requirements alongside US obligations.
**Technical Accounting**: Serve as the company's top technical accounting expert, with deep expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition for subscription businesses with multiple revenue streams, stock-based compensation, and complex judgmental transactions. Set accounting positions that withstand audit scrutiny.
**Billing & Collections**: Lead billing operations, AR, collections, and cash application. Partner with Sales and Product to improve the quote-to-cash process.
**AP & Payroll**: Oversee accounts payable, procurement, vendor management, and payroll accounting across the US, Israel, and other countries.
**Tax**: Manage US, Israeli, and international direct and indirect tax, transfer pricing, and tax provision in coordination with external advisors.
**Cash Management**: Manage cash, liquidity, banking relationships, and prepare cash flow forecasts.
**Equity Administration**: Oversee equity plan administration, cap table support, and 409A valuations.
**Internal Controls & Audit**: Design and operate the internal control environment, including segregation of duties. Manage external audits across all jurisdictions.
**Finance Systems**: Collaborate with the Head of Systems to manage NetSuite, Zuora, and other tools. Drive automation and AI initiatives to increase team efficiency.
**Leadership & Strategy**: Manage and develop a team of ~15 people working across time zones. Prepare board materials and lead technical accounting discussions with the CFO, audit committee, and board. Partner with FP&A, Engineering, Sales, HR, and Legal on processes and systems.
**Requirements**
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Licensed CPA in Israel or the US (required)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 background
- Proven experience leading a full accounting and controllership function (Controller, VP Accounting, CAO, or equivalent) at a mature startup or established global company
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and Israeli corporate reporting, statutory, and tax rules
- Experience leading the accounting function for US-based companies with global operations and managing US-based teams
- Deep technical accounting expertise, including ASC 606 for subscription businesses
- Multi-entity, multi-currency experience, including consolidations, intercompany, and transfer pricing
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite
- Track record of improving close, quote-to-cash, and finance systems and processes
- Fluent English with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including board-level presentation ability
- Sound judgment, high integrity, ability to handle confidential information and work independently
- Advanced Excel skills
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience with Zuora or similar subscription billing platforms
- Experience building and implementing AI and automation tools in finance organizations
- Background in SaaS, marketplace, or consumer internet businesses
- Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach with positive, team-first attitude
