Zopa is a fintech bank founded in 2005 as the first peer-to-peer lending platform, now operating as a full retail bank. This role is central to Zopa's financial crime operations, combining investigative expertise with AI-enabled monitoring tools.
As a Financial Crime Specialist, you will investigate complex transaction monitoring alerts across Zopa's products, identifying activity linked to money laundering, fraud, terrorist financing and other financial crime typologies. You will take ownership of cases from investigation through to decision, using contextual analysis, linked-account insights and appropriate risk mitigation. Your responsibilities include making timely, proportionate and well-evidenced decisions, including account restrictions and escalations where required, and escalating suspicious activity in line with internal procedures and relevant legal and regulatory obligations.
A key aspect of this role is assuring AI and strengthening controls. You will use AI-enabled monitoring tools in day-to-day casework, critically assessing alerts, summaries and recommendations rather than accepting outputs at face value. You will assess whether AI-led decisions and customer journeys are delivering the right financial crime and customer outcomes, identifying and escalating quality, risk or control concerns. You will share insights from investigations to help improve monitoring rules, AI performance, customer questioning and operational controls.
You will maintain clear, accurate investigation records and rationales, documenting evidence considered, decisions made and risks mitigated. You will handle inbound and outbound telephone and chat conversations with professionalism and empathy, including sensitive conversations with customers whose accounts have been suspended. You will collaborate across Financial Crime, Fraud, Customer Support, Product and Risk to progress investigations, resolve issues and improve customer outcomes.
Working pattern: This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in the Manchester office (WeWork, Dalton Place). You will work 7.5-hour shifts between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday. You will also work one full weekend every four weeks, working remotely from 9am to 5:30pm, with weekdays off in lieu. Some bank holiday working will be required throughout the year, with time off in lieu provided. You have the option of working from abroad for up to 120 days per year, subject to having the right to work in the country of choice.
