Salary: USD 336,380 - 404,140 / annual
Recursion Pharmaceuticals is seeking a VP of Business Development and Licensing to lead strategic partnerships and transactions for its AI-native drug discovery platform. Reporting to the Chief Business Officer, you will identify and execute licensing, co-development, acquisition, and co-commercialization opportunities for the company's clinical and preclinical assets in oncology and immunology/inflammation.
Key responsibilities include: building and maintaining relationships with senior business development and licensing counterparts at pharma and biotech organizations; identifying value-maximizing development and commercialization partners for existing clinical and preclinical assets; partnering with cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, and conduct due diligence on in-licensing and acquisition opportunities; structuring, negotiating, and executing diverse transaction types (licensing, acquisition, co-development/co-commercialization, spin-out); consolidating industry feedback to advise internal teams on data-package deliverables; and representing Recursion's platform and acquisition strategy to senior scientific and business leaders across the industry.
You will work seamlessly with colleagues across Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Development, Safety, CMC, Data Science, Legal, and Finance. The role requires self-initiative, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical and commercial concepts to diverse audiences.
Required qualifications: BS/BA in life sciences (biology, chemistry, pharmacy, or medical); 12-15+ years in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry with focus on oncology and immunology/inflammation; 7+ years of direct business development and licensing experience with proven success in buy-side and sell-side transactions; strong network of senior relationships across biotech and large pharma; deep knowledge of drug development from early discovery through commercialization; track record of leading complex, multi-stakeholder negotiations and closing high-value transactions; demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects independently; exceptional cross-functional collaboration skills; and demonstrated interest in AI-enabled drug discovery.
Advanced degree (JD, MBA, PhD, PharmD) strongly preferred. This is an office-based role in New York City with flexibility to work remotely as needed. Travel to conferences and partnering events expected every 4-6 weeks.
