Salary: USD 142,800 - 220,600 / annual
Archer Technologies is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise. We are seeking a resourceful, hands-on Embedded Software Engineer to develop high-reliability real-time systems that operate at the intersection of hardware and software.
You will write modern C++ for Embedded Linux platforms while leveraging Python for test automation and prototyping. This is a hardware-heavy role requiring comfort with board bring-up, oscilloscope debugging, and signal integrity troubleshooting. You will design and implement drivers, manage communications over protocols like CAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and UART, and write defensive code that prioritizes safety and deterministic behavior even under edge cases or unexpected hardware conditions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing efficient, robust C++ code for Embedded Linux targets
- Writing drivers and managing hardware communications across multiple protocols
- Performing deep-dive debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and network sniffers
- Designing resilient software with a safety-first mindset
- Working within agile sprint-driven cycles to iterate quickly
- Troubleshooting protocol issues and reverse-engineering solutions when needed
You should have 2–5 years of embedded software engineering experience with strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++11/14/17/20), Python, and Bash. Solid understanding of Embedded Linux kernel/user-space interactions, real-time constraints, and resource-constrained hardware is essential. Familiarity with Yocto, GTest, CMake, and Ansible is a plus. You are comfortable working with ambiguity, can figure out how systems work, and devise creative workarounds to keep projects moving forward.
