NewGlobe is a mission-driven edtech company that partners with governments to transform public education systems at scale. The company provides integrated school management, teacher professional development, assessment software, and data-driven educational services across multiple markets.
As Vice President of Software Development, you will own NewGlobe's entire software engineering function and lead it through a critical transformation: becoming a genuinely AI-native engineering organization. You report to the Chief Technology Officer and are based in Lagos, working closely with local and peer leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
• Own the software engineering function end-to-end, including delivery teams (each comprising a lead plus 2-3 engineers) and cross-cutting capabilities in solutions architecture, DevOps/CloudOps, and the data platform. Keep teams aligned on shared projects rather than fragmenting into siloed work.
• Lead the transformation to AI-native engineering—set strategy and roadmap to advance the department's AI maturity. This is a multi-stage journey; part of the role is bringing the entire team up, including those not yet at baseline, then progressing to successive levels.
• Lead from the front with genuine hands-on involvement. Pair with engineers, set the standard for AI-assisted development (agentic workflows, skills, memory, craft), and be the engineering leader the team looks up to—not a project manager.
• Turn functions into leverage by reshaping roles like QA and product design from per-team, per-task work into "factory" capabilities. Build agents and systems that test and design at scale rather than manual, repetitive work.
• Manage the human side of change. Guide engineers through a fundamental shift in how they work, address real fears, and energize the team around the transition.
• Deliver against programme and product commitments with a lean, high-leverage team while maintaining quality as work moves through agentic toolchains.
• Build and grow the team through recruitment, coaching, performance management, and close partnership with the CTO and leadership.
This is a hands-on, high-leverage role in a lean, mission-driven, cost-conscious organization. You will be expected to pair (using AI tooling) as part of the interview process.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong track record leading software engineering teams and functions—you have run teams, set technical direction, and been accountable for delivery.
• Real, in-organization experience driving AI-native/agentic engineering adoption (not side-project experimentation or intent only). You can walk through the journey: where you started, what you learned, maturity level reached, and strategy used. The further along, the better.
• Hands-on technical credibility. You still build, can pair effectively, and engineers respect your judgment.
• Experience leading people through technological change—reskilling, motivation, and managing resistance as roles and ways of working shift.
• Builder's instinct for leverage—comfortable turning functions into tools and agents rather than solving everything with more headcount.
• Comfort operating lean and with urgency—cost-conscious, resourceful, and effective in mission-driven, high-growth environments.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Lagos, Nigeria.
