Insitro, a machine-learning-driven drug discovery and development company, is seeking a Vice President of FP&A & Financial Transformation to build and scale its FP&A function to the next level. The company has already embedded AI across finance; this role owns taking that foundation further to give the business seamless access to information and faster, better-informed decision-making.
Year-one priorities include: transitioning from bi-annual budgeting to rolling quarterly forecasts; making scenario planning routine so the Executive Team sees budget impact of decisions in days rather than weeks; extending AI-enabled, self-serve FP&A capability; and tightening the partnership with Accounting so planning, close, and reporting operate as one integrated system.
You will own the company-wide budget and forecast, the headcount and compensation model, and financial materials for the Executive Team and Board, presenting directly to the Board. You'll partner closely with Research, Platform, Clinical Development, People, and G&A functions, serve as a standing partner to Accounting leadership, and work with Investor Relations, Corporate Strategic Finance, and Corporate Development to maintain consistency between internal planning and external financial narrative.
Responsibilities span planning and forecasting (running the planning calendar end-to-end, leading the shift to rolling quarterly forecasts, building bottom-up budgets across R&D, Platform, Clinical Development, and G&A, and establishing scenario planning as a standing capability); next-generation FP&A and finance systems (owning the finance systems roadmap including Oracle Cloud ERP configuration, scaling AI-enabled FP&A, automating management packages and reports, and providing self-serve dashboards to cost center managers); business and accounting partnership (translating research and clinical plans into cost and headcount models, bringing program-level cost visibility to portfolio decisions, and co-owning data governance); and leadership (leading and growing the FP&A team, owning Board and Executive reporting, and maintaining one consistent financial narrative across the organization).
The role reports to the CFO, leads the FP&A team (currently including the Director of R&D and Clinical FP&A), and is based in South San Francisco with a hybrid schedule of approximately three days per week in-office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 12+ years of FP&A/finance experience in biotech or life sciences, including owning a full planning cycle end-to-end
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field
- Proven track record of building an FP&A function, including standing up a planning system, moving to rolling forecasts, and automating reporting
- Experience presenting at Board and Audit Committee level, plus public-company experience with SEC reporting cycles and guidance-setting
- IPO preparation experience with working understanding of public-company planning and reporting discipline
- Clinical development finance experience (trial cost modeling, CRO/vendor management, accruals) and working knowledge of R&D accounting judgments (ASC 730, ASC 808)
- Hands-on experience with enterprise planning platforms, strong knowledge of Oracle Cloud ERP/EPM or equivalent, and strong modeling and presentation skills in Excel, think-cell, and Google Workspace
- Track record of scaling AI/LLM-enabled capability across a finance team, beyond personal use
- Experience leading finance teams, including managing senior individual contributors
