Zoox is seeking a Vehicle Safety - Occupant Protection Engineer to own assigned load cases end-to-end in the development of autonomous vehicle safety systems. In this role, you will translate vehicle technical specifications (VTS) safety targets into testable metrics and drive restraint system development through the vehicle integration process to meet those targets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing virtual and physical Design Verification Plans (DVPs) and tracking execution against plan
- Analyzing test results and providing feedback to engineering teams; reporting outcomes at project gateways
- Supporting system-level and full-vehicle test activities, including defining test requests, test matrices, instrumentation, and test targets in collaboration with the validation team
- Identifying and documenting performance issues; generating and tracking Jira tickets to closure
- Driving Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE)-to-physical test correlation for assigned load cases
- Building and scripting templates for first-pass data integrity checks, results analysis, and reporting
This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep expertise in automotive safety validation and a passion for advancing electric and autonomous mobility. You will work cross-functionally with validation, design, and project teams to ensure occupant protection systems meet regulatory and performance requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS or MS in Engineering with demonstrated passion for electric, autonomous mobility
- 5+ years of experience in automotive development and testing, preferably safety testing
- Sound knowledge of FMVSS regulations and consumer safety protocols
- Experience in virtual and physical safety testing, including analysis in Hyperworks/MetaPost
- Ability to build and script templates for first-pass data integrity checks, results analysis, and reporting
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience in 3D design and PLM tools; CATIA 3DX or CATIA V5 preferred
