Morpho is a leading decentralized finance (DeFi) lending protocol backed by a16z crypto, Paradigm, Ribbit Capital, and others, with over $1 billion in deposits and institutional clients including Bitwise, Galaxy, Anchorage Digital, Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken. The company is scaling to establish itself as the open credit network globally.
Reporting to the General Counsel, the US Policy Lead owns Morpho's regulatory engagement pipeline end to end. This is Morpho's top legal priority as the SEC, CFTC, Treasury, and FinCEN actively write rules governing onchain lending.
Key responsibilities include:
- Track SEC, CFTC, Treasury, and FinCEN rulemakings, guidance, staff statements, and enforcement relevant to onchain lending; maintain a live calendar of comment deadlines with recommended postures.
- Lead drafting of comment letters, responses to requests for comment, and other written submissions, coordinating input from Protocol, Product, Research, and outside counsel, preparing for General Counsel sign-off.
- Prepare and lead meetings with agency staff and commissioner offices, including briefing materials, talking points, and follow-up submissions.
- Represent Morpho in trade association working groups and industry coalitions; coordinate joint filings.
- Engage congressional offices and committee staff on legislation affecting DeFi lending.
- Manage outside policy counsel and consultants: scope, deliverables, and spend.
- Brief leadership and product teams on US policy developments in short written updates; flag implications for protocol, products, and messaging.
Success milestones: Within 30 days, explain Morpho's products to non-technical regulators and build a tracker of open regulatory items with recommended postures. Within 3 months, own the comment pipeline end to end with no missed deadlines, lead at least two agency meetings, send monthly policy updates to leadership, and build relationships with SEC, CFTC, and congressional staff. Within 6 months, establish Morpho as a credible technical voice on DeFi lending with positions reflected in coalition filings and, where possible, in staff guidance or final rules.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5 to 8 years working on SEC or CFTC matters at an agency, law firm regulatory practice, trade association, or in-house regulatory/policy team. Prior SEC or CFTC staff experience strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of federal securities and commodities law and the rulemaking process (notice and comment, staff guidance, no-action letters, exemptive relief).
- Excellent writing skills with comment letters, regulatory submissions, or similar work product to demonstrate.
- Existing relationships with agency staff, congressional staff, or industry coalitions.
- Ability to learn how onchain lending works and explain it clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Sound judgment on escalation; comfortable preparing positions for sign-off rather than setting them independently.
- Strong ownership and autonomy; self-directed.
- Clear and crisp async communication across distributed teams (Paris, New York, DC).
- Comfort operating in fast-changing, ambiguous contexts.
- Team-first mindset with low ego.
