SoSafe is a rapidly growing European human risk management and cybersecurity awareness platform backed by leading VCs (Highland Europe, Global Founders Capital). The company helps organizations address the human factor in cybersecurity through behavioral science and data-driven training.
As General Counsel, you will lead SoSafe's legal function and serve as the primary legal advisor to the leadership team. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role at a scaling SaaS business where you will shape legal strategy, not just execute it.
Key responsibilities include:
**Team Leadership:** Manage and coach a team of 3 lawyers, setting priorities, distributing work fairly, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing, and supporting professional development as the business scales.
**Legal Strategy & Governance:** Set the legal team's strategy aligned with company objectives. Oversee all core legal functions including corporate governance, commercial contracting, compliance, and regulatory risk management. Provide legal advice and risk assessment across the business as the final escalation point. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the EU (GDPR, NIS2, EU AI Act) and translate them into practical business guidance. Address emerging legal implications of AI.
**Business Partnership:** Act as a strategic partner to Sales, supporting quoting, offer, and contracting processes to accelerate deal cycles. Partner closely with Information Security on cybersecurity and regulatory matters. Build strong cross-functional relationships to position legal as an enabler. Manage relationships with external DPO and coordinate external counsel as needed.
**Requirements:**
- 8+ years post-qualification legal experience, including 3-5 years in commercial or contracting environments
- Proven experience leading and developing a legal team
- Experience in SaaS or technology business with understanding of technical and commercial dynamics
- Strong track record supporting Sales teams and commercial deal cycles
- Deep expertise in data protection law
- 2nd German State Examination (Volljurist)
- Fluent in German and English (written and spoken)
- Nice to have: cybersecurity experience, work with Information Security teams, intellectual property law exposure, experience with distributed/remote teams
