Flock Safety is seeking a UAS Flight Test Engineer to lead technical flight testing and evaluation for their Drone as First Responder (DFR) aircraft systems. This role combines hands-on hardware testing, pilot operations, and software debugging to ensure mission-critical reliability.
You will own the complete flight test lifecycle: designing and executing test flights as Pilot in Command, validating hardware integrations and system components under real-world conditions, and troubleshooting discrepancies across physical and software layers. Over 70% of your time will be spent outdoors conducting field testing and operational missions, with up to 25% domestic travel for specialized evaluations.
Key responsibilities include writing and modifying Python test scripts to extract and analyze flight data, conducting root-cause analysis on bench and field issues, documenting flight data with technical rigor, and communicating findings to engineering stakeholders. This is not a desk role or pure research position—you'll actively debug custom software, integrate hardware components, and fly aircraft in diverse environmental conditions.
Required qualifications: valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, hands-on experience with physical component integration and hardware compatibility assessment on aircraft systems, ability to work with custom software via terminal interfaces and write/adapt Python scripts, physical stamina for outdoor field work and ability to lift up to 55 lbs of equipment, and a bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline (or equivalent professional flight test experience). Experience with experimental UAS flight testing or custom flight controllers is a plus.
Compensation: $84,000–$95,000 base salary plus stock options. Flock prioritizes Atlanta and Boston candidates for hub-based collaboration, though some remote roles exist elsewhere in the organization.
