Valar Atomics is a Series A nuclear energy company focused on making clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is building advanced nuclear systems designed for fast deployment and factory-scale production, with a pilot plant planned in Orangeville, Utah.
The Power Conversion team within Engineering develops technologies that efficiently transform reactor-generated heat into usable electrical power, focusing on system performance, reliability, and commercial viability.
As a Turbomachinery Secondary Flow Engineer, you will be responsible for defining the secondary flow path for Valar's power generation turbomachinery. This is an early-stage turbomachinery role where you will directly influence system architecture decisions and work cross-functionally to develop a manufacturable, high-efficiency, robust design.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as the responsible engineer for secondary flow passages in the turbomachinery system
- Owning procurement or manufacture of seals for the secondary flow system
- Conducting trade studies of seal configurations and driving actionable architecture decisions from analysis
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize design for manufacturability and performance
You will need a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with demonstrated experience analyzing secondary flow systems from either a systems or seal design perspective. Experience with rotating seal design or seal procurement is required. A Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.
