Impulse Space is seeking a Turbomachinery Engineer to design, analyze, build, and test high-performance turbomachinery for advanced liquid rocket engines. You will work within a fast-paced, agile engineering team on critical propulsion systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design turbomachinery components for high-performance liquid rocket engines
- Perform 1-D sizing and detailed flowpath design for liquid inducers, stators, impellers, hot gas turbine rotors, and stators
- Design secondary fluid flowpaths for bearings, seals, and coolant systems
- Conduct detailed structural analysis of turbomachinery components using CAD and analysis software
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to optimize for manufacturability, cost, and reliability
- Support turbopump manufacturing and testing phases, ensuring successful hardware validation
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or science
- 3+ years of relevant turbomachinery design and analysis experience
- Strong foundation in fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, and materials science
- Proficiency with fluids and structural analysis software (CFD, FEA tools)
- Hands-on CAD experience for hardware design
- Knowledge of turbomachinery design practices and turbopump assembly procedures (rotor balancing, interference fits, clearance checks)
- Ability to take project ownership and work effectively in small, collaborative teams
