Valar Atomics is building advanced nuclear power systems to unlock clean, scalable energy for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is developing a pilot plant in Utah and is hiring a Thermal Engineer to join the Power Conversion team within the Engineering organization. In this role, you will be responsible for thermal analysis and design of turbomachinery components—both rotating rotors and static structures—that convert reactor-generated heat into electrical power. As an early hire in the turbomachinery function, you will have direct influence on system architecture and design decisions. Key responsibilities include: - Analyzing rotating and static components to define maximum operating temperatures - Developing thermal isolation strategies to keep components within safe operating limits - Defining turbine blade operating temperatures for creep and stress rupture life calculations - Designing insulation strategies for the power conversion system to minimize waste heat losses You will work cross-functionally with aerodynamics, structural, and manufacturing engineers to define a high-efficiency, producible cycle design.
