Salary: USD 144,000 - 177,000 / annual
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, is seeking a Thermal Engineer II to own the thermal design and analysis of spacecraft assemblies and subsystems. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose, CA.
You will be responsible for building and running thermal models using tools like Thermal Desktop, performing conduction and radiation hand calculations, and conducting transient analyses. You'll own the complete thermal analysis package for assigned assemblies or subsystems, from initial design through verification. Key responsibilities include sizing radiators and heaters, defining component thermal limits and margins, and supporting thermal verification and TVAC (Thermal Vacuum) test campaigns including data reduction and analysis.
You will coordinate thermal interfaces across mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams, ensuring seamless integration of thermal requirements throughout the spacecraft design. Additionally, you will mentor interns and junior engineers through model reviews and technical guidance.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of spacecraft or aerospace thermal engineering experience (or equivalent with advanced degree), demonstrated proficiency with thermal analysis software such as Thermal Desktop, hands-on experience with TVAC or other spacecraft thermal testing, and a solid understanding of conduction/radiation fundamentals and analytical methods. A B.S. or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field is required.
Nice-to-have skills include Python or Matlab scripting, mechanical CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred), and familiarity with infrared imaging systems or spacecraft payloads.
