Impulse is seeking a Thermal Engineer to lead thermal management across the full spacecraft lifecycle—from concept and analysis through design, implementation, testing, and flight operations. You will work within a fast-paced, agile team developing high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining thermal models of spacecraft, systems, and components; determining appropriate physical properties, environments, and boundary conditions; selecting and designing thermal management hardware (heat pipes, radiators, heaters, thermal paint, tape, MLI); overseeing and defining thermal cycle and vacuum testing protocols; analyzing test data to correlate models and improve fidelity; collaborating with design engineers on thermal management strategies; communicating with suppliers on material properties and requirements; and thoroughly documenting analyses and designs with implementation instructions.
You will own projects end-to-end, demonstrating creativity, self-direction, and the ability to drive completion. This role requires hands-on technical depth in spacecraft thermal systems and the ability to bridge analysis, hardware selection, testing, and flight validation.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering; 1+ years demonstrated experience developing and maintaining thermal models of spacecraft, systems, or components; 1+ years demonstrated experience selecting, designing, and implementing thermal management hardware; ability to perform thermal testing (flight and ground) and data analysis; strong project ownership and self-driven execution.
