HeartFlow is a publicly traded medical technology company (HTFL) pioneering AI-driven diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease using non-invasive cardiac imaging. The company's flagship product, HeartFlow FFR_CT Analysis, provides 3D visualization of coronary arteries and has been used for over 500,000 patients globally across the US, UK, Europe, Japan, and Canada.
The Test Architect is a senior technical leader and founding hire for HeartFlow's Test Engineering function. This is a hands-on Staff/Principal-level individual contributor role responsible for architecting the end-to-end testing framework and automation pipeline across frontend, backend, 3D modeling, and AI/ML systems for regulated SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) products.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting technical strategy for end-to-end test automation across the full product pipeline, defining patterns, frameworks, and architecture that scale.
- Driving an AI-first test automation approach: designing adoption of AI-assisted authoring, self-healing locators, spec-driven test development, and LLM-driven triage.
- Architecting post-deployment testing capabilities including production smoke tests, synthetic monitoring, and continuous validation.
- Designing test depth calibrated to each component's safety classification, ensuring higher-risk components receive deeper verification.
- Authoring complex test plans, protocols, and reports; setting standards and templates for the QMS.
- Leading tool validation strategy for test infrastructure, partnering with RA/QA on regulatory evidence.
- Building and improving UI and mobile automation using Selenium, Playwright, and other frameworks, including WebGL-based 3D viewers and desktop clinical applications.
- Defining API, integration, medical imaging, and clinical data interoperability testing standards.
- Partnering with engineering, product, and RA/QA leaders on requirements traceability and verification strategies.
- Owning the technical relationship between requirements management and traceability tooling.
- Leading root-cause investigations on high-impact issues and driving systemic prevention.
- Defining CI/CD integration for automated tests to deliver fast, reliable feedback.
- Serving as primary technical owner for quality audits, CAPAs, and regulatory submissions.
- Mentoring senior and mid-level engineers; leading technical reviews and raising quality engineering standards.
- Helping define hiring profiles and leading technical interviews for future Test Engineering team members.
- Influencing cross-functional decisions on quality strategy and engineering process improvements.
The ideal candidate brings 8–12 years of software test engineering, SDET, or quality engineering experience with a strong track record as a hands-on technical leader who has personally architected automation frameworks. Required expertise includes substantial experience with modern automation frameworks (Selenium, Playwright), proven shipping of regulated SaMD products, and the ability to influence engineers and leaders across the organization.
