Salary: USD 112,000 - 149,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Technical Writer to join the Intelligence Systems team in Reston, Virginia. This role focuses on generating and maintaining engineering and developer-focused technical documentation for the Intelligence Community (IC). You will partner closely with engineering teams, product management, and business stakeholders to create user-focused documentation that supports the full product development lifecycle—from planning and design through technical configuration, deployment, and integration.
The role emphasizes that documentation is a critical part of product development and national security. Your mission is to ensure front-line decision makers have access to exceptionally well-written and presented technical artifacts. You will work on diverse documentation types including compliance documentation, process guides, user guides, release notes, troubleshooting guides, and API documentation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Generate, review, and edit high-quality, user-focused documentation across various technical audiences
- Cover full development lifecycle documentation from planning through deployment
- Collaborate with engineering to ship user-friendly documentation that enhances user experience
- Contribute to Anduril's technical writing toolkit, including style guides and documentation lifecycle processes
- Build partnerships across the business to understand users and products
- Apply software development best practices to documentation systems
This is a startup-like environment where you will help shape Anduril's product documentation experience from the ground up. The role requires someone who can thrive in unstructured environments, work independently, and drive tasks to completion with high autonomy.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of demonstrated excellence generating technical documentation for various technical audiences and product types
- Technical aptitude: ability to read and interpret software and hardware documentation for complex technical products
- Proven clear and persuasive writing and in-person communication skills for diverse audiences (technical to lay person)
- Mission-first mindset focused on customer and mission needs
- Adaptability and self-starter mentality in unstructured environments
- Strong collaboration and low-ego approach with engineering staff, SMEs, and program management
- Passion for excellent documentation and user experience with curiosity for new technology
- Basic development proficiency and ability to apply software development best practices to documentation
- Willingness to streamline and augment processes using artificial intelligence
- Currently possesses and able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
- Subject to pre-employment and randomized substance screening
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience using, evaluating, and implementing modern software and automation tools for high-volume technical writing
- Proficiency with Docs-as-Code, Sphinx, VS Code, basic command line skills, Git or other source control systems, Adobe Acrobat, and MS Office Suite
