OpenAI's Research Recruiting team is seeking a Technical Sourcer to identify and engage world-class software and machine learning engineers advancing the frontier of AI and machine learning. You will drive top-of-funnel sourcing efforts, build thoughtful outreach strategies, and cultivate long-term relationships with highly specialized technical talent to support OpenAI's Research teams' hiring ambitions.
You will work across deeply technical roles, mapping emerging fields in AI/ML, identifying leading contributors, and proactively engaging experts in their respective domains. You'll partner closely with recruiters, hiring managers, and research leaders to surface exceptional candidates, generate strong pipelines for niche searches, and continuously refine sourcing strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build highly targeted searches that deliver candidate profiles with precision
- Craft thoughtful outreach approaches to engage passive talent and cultivate relationships with high-priority targets over the long term
- Develop creative strategies to discover non-traditional, highly specialized, and emerging talent
- Partner with hiring managers to develop customized sourcing strategies and advise on market dynamics
- Take a highly organized, data-driven approach to candidate tracking and funnel metrics
- Represent OpenAI and engage with community members at conferences and events
Requirements:
- Significant experience sourcing specialized engineering/technical talent across a range of highly technical domains
- Deep interest in AI and the engineering challenges behind frontier research, with desire to deepen understanding of complex technical domains and communities
- Demonstrable success sourcing and hiring top technical talent at a premier tech company, high-growth startup, VC firm, or executive search firm
- Ability to drive multiple complex searches in parallel while maintaining high quality bar and exceptional stakeholder and candidate experience
- Passion for the research and mapping components of sourcing; comfort with a long-term approach
Workplace: Hybrid (3 days/week in office, flexible Thursdays/Fridays). Based in San Francisco, New York, or Seattle offices, or fully remote within the US. Relocation support available.
