Arbor Energy is building advanced power systems that deliver clean, reliable baseload electricity with zero operating emissions. The core technology is a supercritical CO₂ turbine with integrated carbon capture, designed to enable carbon-neutral power at scale. The company is recruiting a Technical Project Lead to drive engineering and execution of Arbor's first-of-a-kind power plant from front-end engineering (FEED) through construction, commissioning, and first power. This is fundamentally an engineer's role: you will own integrated technical execution across the full project lifecycle. You'll start hands-on in El Segundo authoring plant-level process design (PFDs, heat and material balances, P&IDs, relief and utility design), then transition toward integration and field leadership as the plant moves to site. You will work closely with turbomachinery, combustion, controls, electrical, and test engineers. Key responsibilities include: - Owning the integrated technical execution plan: mapping dependencies across disciplines, permitting, and procurement; sequencing work by actual decision dependencies. - Authoring or directing plant-level process design, integrating Arbor's core technology with balance-of-plant systems. - Identifying critical-path equipment early and leading long-lead procurement: specifications, bid evaluations, vendor design reviews, and factory acceptance tests. - Scoping, selecting, and managing engineering firms, fabricators, and construction contractors; reviewing their work in depth and owning interfaces between packages. - Leading process safety (HAZID, HAZOP/LOPA, PSSR) and building constructability, modularization, and commissioning sequence into design from the start. - Coordinating with permitting, environmental, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance and timely approvals. - Managing project schedule, budget, and risk; escalating issues and driving resolution. - Following the plant to site, leading commissioning activities, and handing over to a locally hired operations team. The role is based at Arbor's headquarters in El Segundo, CA, with expectation of field presence during construction and commissioning phases. Qualifications: - 10+ years of experience in process or power plant engineering, with deep understanding of project dependencies and system integration. - Demonstrated experience leading large, complex capital projects from design through commissioning. - Strong background in process design, heat and material balances, P&IDs, and relief/utility systems. - Experience with long-lead equipment procurement, vendor management, and factory acceptance testing. - Proficiency in process simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus) and scripting (Python, MATLAB). - Knowledge of process safety methodologies (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, PSSR). - Experience managing engineering contractors, fabricators, and construction teams. - Familiarity with power generation, energy systems, or similar capital-intensive industrial projects preferred. - Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
