In this Software Engineer, Developer Experience role, you will improve how external developers discover, understand, integrate with, and build on Airwallex's APIs and platform. You'll work closely with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Technical Support to streamline the developer experience across the full lifecycle—from API design and documentation to tooling, analytics, and customer feedback loops.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning API standards and conventions to make Airwallex's developer experience clearer and more consistent
- Building user and data analytics pipelines to understand how developers use products and identify where they need help
- Developing a developer portal and documentation experience with AI as a core feature
- Contributing to open-source projects and fostering a developer community around Airwallex's platform
- Adopting technologies that raise the bar for engineering practices and shipping external tools and services to customers
You'll work from the Singapore office five days a week and operate across time zones with a globally distributed team including colleagues in APAC and North America.
The Developer Experience team owns the core developer ecosystem—including documentation platforms, APIs, CLI, SDKs, OAuth, external agentic interfaces (MCP & Skills), Developer Apps, and Sandbox. You'll collaborate closely with product, design, and cross-functional teams to ship secure, reliable, and high-impact developer tools.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essentials:
- Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend development in Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python
- Solid computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design
- Experience designing, building, and operating high-volume distributed systems
- Strong cloud engineering experience with GCP or AWS (EC2, RDS, ELB, CloudFront, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience releasing and maintaining well-known APIs or designing APIs
Preferred:
- Experience in AI agent applications
- Experience in MCP servers
- Experience maintaining open-source projects
- Experience leading major software migrations involving breaking changes
- Experience in developer experience or other customer-facing engineering roles
