Applied Intuition is seeking a Technical Lead for its Autonomous Behaviors and Agents engineering team. You will lead a team of engineers building intelligent agents that plan and execute missions using advanced reasoning, planning, and optimization algorithms. Your responsibilities include driving technical vision and architecture for multi-agent systems, leading and mentoring engineers, guiding design and implementation of multi-agent optimization algorithms for distributed decision-making, and directing development of temporal logic frameworks and constraint-satisfaction algorithms for complex planning scenarios.
You will partner with product, program, and customer-facing stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical priorities and coordinate cross-team integration across the Axion and Acuity system families. This role requires hands-on technical leadership where you remain engaged in critical technical decisions while scaling your team's capabilities.
Required qualifications include an MS or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or related field (or 8+ years professional experience developing intelligent agents/planning systems), 8+ years hands-on C++ development (C++20 preferred), and 2+ years leading engineering teams or serving as technical lead on complex software programs. You should have depth in formal foundations such as automated/temporal planning (PDDL, HDDL, HTN), multi-criteria constraint and combinatorial optimization (MILP, CP-SAT), temporal logic (LTL/STL/MTL), distributed consensus, and formal verification.
You must demonstrate a track record of setting technical direction, driving architectural decisions, and delivering complex systems through team leadership. Strong theoretical understanding of constraint satisfaction, scheduling, and optimization algorithms is essential. Experience with Docker, containerized development, Linux-based operating systems, service-oriented architecture, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders are required. Mentoring experience and ability to build high-performing team culture are critical.
Nice-to-have qualifications include prior work on defense, aerospace, or safety-critical autonomy programs, and experience representing engineering in customer or program reviews. Occasional travel (10–20%) is required for demonstrations and integration activities. Applied Intuition is an in-office company with expectation of 5 days/week office presence, though occasional flexibility is provided.
