Applied Intuition is seeking a Technical Lead to lead the Autonomous Behaviors and Agents engineering team, responsible for building next-generation human-machine teaming and real-time decision-making systems. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with team management, guiding engineers who develop intelligent agents for mission-critical autonomy across air, space, land, surface, and sub-surface platforms. You will drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for systems in the Axion and Acuity family, translating cutting-edge algorithms into shipped, mission-critical capabilities. Key responsibilities include leading and mentoring a team of engineers, conducting design reviews, setting engineering standards, and raising the bar on code quality and algorithmic rigor. You'll guide the design and implementation of multi-agent optimization algorithms for distributed decision-making and coordination, direct development of temporal logic frameworks and constraint-satisfaction algorithms for complex planning scenarios, and partner with product, program, and customer-facing stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical priorities. Required qualifications include an MS or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or related field (or 8+ years of professional experience developing intelligent agents or planning systems), 8+ years of hands-on C++20 development experience with 2+ years leading engineering teams or serving as technical lead on complex software programs. You should have depth in formal foundations such as automated/temporal planning (PDDL, HDDL, HTN), multi-criteria constraint and combinatorial optimization (MILP, CP-SAT, graph/matching, metaheuristics), temporal logic (LTL/STL/MTL), distributed consensus and CRDTs, and formal verification/model checking. Strong theoretical understanding and practical experience implementing algorithms for constraint satisfaction, scheduling, and optimization are essential, along with deep procedural and object-oriented programming experience, Docker and containerized development proficiency, Linux-based OS experience, and understanding of service-oriented architecture paradigms. You should demonstrate a track record of setting technical direction, driving architectural decisions, and delivering complex systems through a team. Experience mentoring engineers, running design and code reviews, and building healthy, high-performing team culture is required. Nice-to-have qualifications include prior work on defense, aerospace, or safety-critical autonomy programs, and experience representing engineering in customer or program reviews. Occasional travel (10–20%) is required for demonstrations and integration activities.
