Applied Intuition is seeking a Technical Lead to lead the Autonomous Behaviors and Agents engineering team, responsible for building next-generation human-machine teaming and real-time decision-making systems. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with team management, focusing on intelligent agents that plan and execute missions using advanced reasoning, planning, and optimization algorithms across heterogeneous platforms (air, space, land, surface, sub-surface). You will drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for the team while directing execution from concept through delivery. Key responsibilities include leading and mentoring a team of engineers, conducting design reviews, setting engineering standards, and raising the bar on code quality and algorithmic rigor. You'll guide the design and implementation of multi-agent optimization algorithms for distributed decision-making and coordination problems, develop temporal logic frameworks and constraint-satisfaction algorithms for complex planning scenarios, and partner with product, program, and customer-facing stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical priorities. Required qualifications include an MS or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or related field (or 8+ years professional experience developing intelligent agents/planning systems), 8+ years hands-on experience with modern C++ (C++20), and 2+ years leading engineering teams or serving as technical lead on complex software programs. You must have a strong track record setting technical direction, driving architectural decisions, and delivering complex systems through a team. Deep expertise in constraint satisfaction, scheduling, and optimization algorithms is essential, along with proficiency in Docker, containerized development, and Linux-based operating systems. Additional requirements: service-oriented architecture knowledge, ability to translate complex mathematical concepts into clear technical documentation, and experience mentoring engineers and building high-performing team culture. Must be a U.S. Citizen eligible for U.S. SECRET clearance with Special Access Program (SAP) eligibility. Occasional travel (10–20%) required for demonstrations, integration, and customer engagement. Nice-to-have qualifications include prior work on defense, aerospace, or safety-critical autonomy programs; experience representing engineering in customer/program reviews; game theory knowledge for multi-agent coordination; familiarity with real-time optimization under hardware/edge constraints; and background in Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) or defense applications.
