Apptronik is a human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered humanoid robots (Apollo) to support humanity across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and beyond. The Production Engineering team owns the engineering last mile—turning humanoid subsystems into fully functioning, field-ready systems and commissioning them on-site under Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). You will build and lead this new organization as a hands-on technical manager, setting standards for deployment, integration, and reliability while growing a cross-disciplinary team of software support, site-reliability, and hardware-configuration engineers.
Key responsibilities include: building and mentoring the Production Engineering team; owning end-to-end integration of subsystems into working humanoids; championing on-site deployment, bring-up, and commissioning for internal and external customers; establishing standards, tooling, and on-call practices for fleet reliability under real-world field conditions; owning centralized deployment and rollout across the fleet with canary, staged, and cascading strategies; setting technical direction for provisioning, configuration management, networking, and fleet tooling in partnership with the org's Architect; partnering cross-functionally with Commercial, Service & Support, and PMO teams; and defining lightweight, repeatable processes that scale as the team and customer base grow.
You will report to the head of Infrastructure Software and work closely with the organization's Architect. Travel to deployment sites is expected, up to 25% during active deployments.
Required qualifications: proven technical leadership managing engineers and owning delivery of complex, cross-disciplinary systems; deep hands-on experience deploying, integrating, and commissioning complex hardware/software systems in the field (robotics experience preferred); strong systems breadth across Linux, networking (DDS/UDP/TCP), provisioning and configuration management (Ansible), and software (C++/Python); excellent communication and stakeholder management; sound judgment under pressure at customer facilities; formal people-management experience (hiring, developing, directing teams); Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent; 8+ years of software/robotics engineering experience OR 4+ years of direct humanoid/manipulation/teleoperation domain experience including lead/ownership roles; demonstrated experience owning on-site deployment and commissioning of complex systems.
Bonus qualifications include: direct humanoid, manipulation, or teleoperation domain experience; experience standing up new teams or functions from scratch; ROS 2, containerization/CI-CD, and fleet-management tooling; ML/MLOps in the field; warehouse and industrial systems integration (WMS/WES/MES/WCS); cloud infrastructure and fleet backend services; deep back-end experience (TypeScript, Kubernetes); deep front-end experience (React, CSS, interface design).
