Overland AI, founded in 2022 and headquartered in Seattle, is transforming land operations for modern defense through advanced robotics and machine learning. The company has developed OverDrive, an autonomy stack enabling ground vehicles to navigate and operate off-road in any terrain without GPS or direct operator control, and OverWatch, a command-and-control interface for mission coordination. Backed by prominent defense tech investors including 8VC and Point 72, with partnerships across DARPA, the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command, Overland AI is strengthening national security through field-tested autonomous systems. You will own performance and the compute platform underpinning the autonomous off-road driving stack, spanning middleware performance, system-level tuning, and compute optimization. Working across the full stack, you'll ensure software runs efficiently on high-performance compute platforms in the field while enabling rapid developer iteration. Key responsibilities include: profiling and optimizing middleware and inter-process communication (ROS2, DDS, shared-memory transports) to minimize latency and maximize throughput; identifying and resolving system-level performance bottlenecks across CPU, GPU, memory, and I/O; working directly with algorithm developers to profile code and co-design optimized implementations meeting real-time budgets; building automated performance regression testing into CI to catch degradations before merge; writing high-performance, clean C++ code and promoting good practices across the engineering organization; and thinking holistically about system-wide impacts, contributing improvements beyond your core domain. Minimum qualifications: BS in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field with 7+ years relevant experience (or MS/PhD with 5+); strong background in systems engineering, performance optimization, or compute platform development.
