Valar Atomics is a Series A advanced nuclear energy company focused on making clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is building a pilot plant in Utah and is hiring a Technical Illustrator and CAD Designer to join the Mechanical Engineering team. In this role, you will transform complex mechanical and electromechanical assemblies into clear, production-ready technical illustrations, work instructions, and 3D documentation. You'll create detailed technical illustrations, exploded views, assembly sequences, and callout graphics using SolidWorks Composer or equivalent tools. Your work will support manufacturing, service, and training operations across the organization. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining shop-floor-ready work instructions, creating installation guides and assembly procedures from 3D models, and generating 2D drawings with proper GD&T and BOMs. You'll support prototype builds, document CNC machining and lathe work, and create documentation for sheet metal, welding, and pressure vessel fabrication. The role requires strong familiarity with real-world manufacturing processes—machining, fabrication, assembly—and the ability to incorporate tooling access, datum structure, and finishes into drawings. You'll collaborate closely with machinists and technicians, align documentation with inspection and tolerance requirements per ASME Y14.5, and support pressure vessel documentation in accordance with ASME Section VIII. Required qualifications include an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field, 2+ years of CAD and technical illustration experience, proficiency in SolidWorks, strong GD&T knowledge per ASME Y14.5, experience with PDM/PLM systems, and understanding of CNC machining, lathe operations, sheet metal fabrication, coatings, and pressure vessel systems. Preferred experience includes SolidWorks Composer, aerospace or energy industry background, PLM tools like Teamcenter or Windchill, Adobe Illustrator, and direct machine shop experience.
